May I Notarize A Document That Takes Effect At A Future Date?

My boss wants me to sign documents that have been predated to a future date. Is it okay for me to notarize these documents? I am acknowledging his signature. — S.A. California

Yes, provided you keep some things in mind. In general, any document bearing a date in the future or future effective date may be notarized before that date. A California Notary may notarize a document that has been predated provided: (1) the Notary enters the actual date of notarization in the certificate of acknowledgment, and not the date appearing on the document; and (2) the signer enters the actual date of signing on any document requiring a date next to the signature.
